GREENWOOD, Arkansas — Two Greenwood students have been arrested after allegedly taking a gun on school property at a football game.

According to a release from the Greenwood Police Department (GPD), officers were investigating multiple car break ins and a separate theft of a firearm from a vehicle when the department received information about students possibly taking a firearm on campus.

"As soon as we learned this information, we contacted the parents of the students who could have possibly had interaction with those suspects," GPD said.

The release said that officers were able to verify the students on school property during a football game and that they were in possession of a gun.

Both students were arrested and taken to the Sebastian County Juvenile Detention Center, according to GPD.

Police said that there were no known verbal or physical threats made against the school, and that there is no information indicating the gun was on campus during the school day.

GPD said they "want to recognize the courage" of students who came forward and cooperated with the investigation.
