Springdale man arrested for battery after Wednesday morning shooting

Springdale police say that a man sent to the hospital after a Wednesday morning shooting has been arrested for battery.

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — A man sent to the hospital after a Wednesday morning shooting in Springdale has been arrested for battery after an investigation revealed what led up to the incident, according to police.

The Springdale Police Department (SPD) announced earlier this week that it began investigating a shooting that took place on Jan. 11 that left one person with non-life-threatening injuries on N 40th Street.

SPD reports that officers responded to the address just after midnight and found one person with a single gunshot wound.

According to a new release from SPD, an investigation revealed that Kevin Marquez-Argueta, 29, was having an argument with a woman when he slapped her.

The release says that the woman's child tried to stop Marquez-Argueta from hitting the woman again, and the suspect reportedly pushed the child into a door, causing injuries to the child's head.

The woman then shot Marquez-Argueta. A preliminary report details that the man was shot in the face.

The child was transported to a local hospital and treated, while Marquez-Argueta was taken to a different local hospital and treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Police say Marquez-Argueta was arrested on Jan. 12 after being released. He's accused of one count of second-degree domestic battery.
