Washington County jury sentences man to life plus 160 years for rape, sexual assault of minor

WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — An Arkansas man arrested in Washington County for the rape and sexual assault of a minor has been found guilty and sentenced to life plus 160 years in prison.

Carlos Sigears, 43, of Marianna, was facing multiple felony charges going into his trial.

The case has been ongoing since at least 2020, and Prosecutor Denis Dean confirmed to 5NEWS on Dec. 3 that a jury found him guilty of one count of rape of a minor and four counts of second-degree sexual assault.

Sigears received a life sentence plus 160 years in prison, and Dean said that justice had finally been served.

"We are grateful to our Washington County jury for holding this repeat child sex offender fully accountable for his deviant actions," Dean said. "I wish to thank the Fayetteville Police Department and the Children’s Safety Center for their diligent and professional work seeing this case through to a just and appropriate outcome."

The incidents Sigears was charged for involved at least one victim less than 14 years old, according to court documents.
