New details released about the AutoZone shooting in Berryville that left 1 dead

The woman who died from a gunshot wound allegedly orchestrated a plan with two other men to jump one of the AutoZone workers when he got off work.

BERRYVILLE, Ark. — A shooting at the AutoZone in Berryville killed one person on May 18, according to Berryville Police Chief Robert Bartos.

Officers were dispatched to the auto parts store on West Trimble Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. When officers arrived, they found a woman with a gunshot wound.

The woman, who was identified as Izamar Maryeli Paz of Berryville, was transported to Mercy Hospital in Berryville to be treated for life-threatening injuries where she later died.

New details

According to a press release provided by Chief Bartos on May 28, Paz brought a man with her to the AutoZone around 10:30 a.m. on May 18. When the man walked into the store, he reportedly threatened one of the workers.

"The male told [the worker] that he would be back when he got off of work and a made a gesture with his hand, leading [the worker] to believe that the individual was armed with a handgun," Bartos said.

Paz and the man left the store to meet up with another individual to allegedly make plans to fight the AutoZone worker when he got off work.

"They planned to bring a firearm because they thought [the worker] may be armed," Bartos's report said.

When the worker got off, the three individuals were waiting for him in the parking lot. A fight reportedly broke out between the worker and the two men with Paz.

During the altercation, Paz walked up from the side. She and the worker then drew their handguns and fired at each other, according to Bartos.

Paz was struck multiple times, while the worker was left uninjured.

According to Bartos, no criminal charges will be filed at this time against any individuals involved.
