FORT SMITH, Ark. — The Fort Smith Police Department (FSPD) has arrested two juveniles for breaking and entering into 15 vehicles over the weekend.
According to the release, the two were arrested on Sunday, Oct. 29.
Officials say the suspects stole a vehicle after the keys were left inside it and then used it to "commit other crimes." Police say the stolen vehicle was eventually located.
Detectives say they were able to connect the two suspects to breaking and entering 15 vehicles. These crimes were committed "over the weekend throughout the city," according to FSPD. At the time of the arrest, police say one of the juveniles had an outstanding warrant for vehicle theft.
Police say of those 15 vehicles that were broken into, all of them were opened or unlocked. Of the items stolen, a firearm was included, officials say.
FSPD says the juveniles are suspected to be connected to other breaking and entering cases and are facing multiple counts of vehicle theft, breaking and entering into vehicles and criminal mischief.
The investigation is currently ongoing. Police remind the public to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables from their vehicle before leaving them unattended.
