FORT SMITH, Ark. — Fort Smith police have located and arrested a man that escaped from the LeFlore County Jail earlier this week.
Kevin Thompson, 41, was booked into the jail on Feb. 24 on charges of kidnapping, domestic assault with a deadly weapon, and interfering with emergency communications. County officials said Thompson was able to follow another inmate out as they were being released.
According to the Fort Smith Police Department, Thompson was spotted at a bar at 5th and Garrison, fled, and was captured near the Blue Lion.
The LeFlore County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) previously told 5NEWS that deputies spent all day following up on leads but were unable to find him. The jail said that they considered Thompson dangerous.

On Thursday evening, Feb. 29, Fort Smith Police arrested 41-year-old Kevin Thompson after he was reported at a business in the 500 block of Garrison Avenue following an escape from LeFlore County Detention Center earlier in the day. Mr. Thompson fled the scene and was apprehended a short time later near the 100 block of North 2nd Street. We would like to thank our residents and visitors in that area for their patience as this was brought to a safe conclusion.
