WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO), one person is dead after a pursuit that ended in a shooting on Sunday, Dec. 3.
The incident took place at around 10:36 p.m., the release said. WCSO said a deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop on a pickup truck at Blue Springs Road and Beav-O-Rama Road. Officials said the driver did not stop so a pursuit was initiated. The driver is identified as Scottie Stacy.
The release states Stacy ended up "going through a fence" to a dead-end road, and "into a field" where he finally stopped, according to officials.
WCSO said the deputy stepped out of the vehicle to approach the suspect, and that's when Stacy "began rapidly accelerating in reverse toward the deputy and the patrol car," hitting the patrol car.
The deputy then shot at Stacy, according to officials. Although EMS had been called, WCSO said Stacy died at the scene. There was reportedly a passenger in Stacy's vehicle, but they were "not injured," Arkansas State Police (ASP) reports.
Stacy's body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, and the investigation is underway. The release states Sheriff Cantrell with WCSO asked ASP to investigate the shooting and said any further information on this case would be released by ASP.
