SPRINGDALE, Ark. — Spanish version: Para español haga click aqui.
The Springdale Police Department (SPD) responded to a call of a shooting outside Zabana Night Club on Old Missouri Road on Sunday, Dec. 17 at around 1:50 a.m. according to a press release.
Officials said when they arrived there was a 21-year-old man with two gunshot wounds. SPD provided life-saving measures until emergency crews arrived. The victim was taken to a local hospital where SPD said he died. The victim is identified as Steven Ogando Lopez.
SPD said the person who shot Lopez was a security guard for the nightclub. Officials said the security guard stayed on the scene and "cooperated with the investigation," and was taken to the police station for investigation.
According to SPD, the guard told investigators that Lopez had been kicked out of the nightclub "after causing issues and having a knife on him inside." The release said the guard said Lopez allegedly went to a vehicle and got a firearm. The guard confronted Lopez in the parking lot where another altercation took place. Lopez allegedly "pointed his firearm toward the security guard," and that's when the security guard shot him, the release said.
SPD said no one else was injured in the shooting and no one else has been arrested. This is an active investigation and officials said no further information will be released at this time.
