Police: Search underway for bank robbery suspect in Fort Smith

The robbery took place at around 9:20 a.m., according to officials.

FORT SMITH, Ark. — The Fort Smith Police Department (FSPD) responded to a bank robbery on the early morning of Jan. 8.

Officials say the bank robbed was Cadence Bank located at 3117 Grand Avenue. This happened at around 9:20 a.m., according to officials.

An investigation is underway as police search for the suspect. FSPD has provided surveillance images of the suspect to help with the investigation.

"The only thing that we can release right now is that we have images, that admittedly don't show a whole lot of the sex or the ethnicity or anything like that of the individual," Aric Mitchell, FSPD's public information officer, said. "And we're just hoping that somebody can see it [and] maybe it will trigger something that they noticed around that time period that was unusual."

Police ask anyone with information to contact FSPD at 479-709-5100 or 911 if it is an emergency.

No further details have been released at this time. Officials said more information will be released when available.
