KANSAS CITY, Mo. — According to the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD), shots were fired and the area was evacuated near Union Station.

KCPD says shots were fired west of Union Station near the garage and multiple people were struck. Two armed people were taken into custody.

The Kansas City Fire Department said were at least 10 victims, the Kansas City CBS affiliate KCTV reported. Fire officials confirmed that at least one person died as a result of the shooting.

Minutes after Kansas City Chiefs players vowed to go for a third-straight Super Bowl title, there was a shooting following the speeches that ended a victory parade. Ambulances rushed to the scene, and officers rushed to the scene with guns drawn. No details were immediately released.

"Please join me in prayer for all the victims in this heinous act. Pray that doctors & first responders would have steady hands & that all would experience full healing," he said.

According to the Associated Press, the Chief's trainer Rick Burkholder said the team was on buses returning to Arrowhead Stadium when the shooting occurred.

Burkholder says he was with coach Andy Reid and other coaches and staff members at the time of the shooting. Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes wrote, “Praying for Kansas City,” in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"I'm angry at what happened today. The people that came to this celebration should expect a safe environment," a Kansas City Police Department spokesperson said during a press conference.
