Rogers police warns of looting, barricade violations while tornado clean-up efforts continue

While many destroyed homes and cars are vulnerable at the moment, the police department said they will not tolerate any theft or looting in the city.

ROGERS, Ark. — After four tornadoes and widespread storms killed one, injured others, and cut power across the region, the Rogers Police Department (RPD) is keeping a close watch on areas that require cleanup.

While many destroyed homes and cars are vulnerable at the moment, the police department said they will not tolerate any theft or looting in the city.

According to RPD, they arrested and took at least two people to the Benton County Jail for commercial burglary on May 28.

"They were apprehended after taking merchandise from the ruins of Sally Beauty and loading it up in their vehicle," police say.

On Monday, Keith Foster with RPD also reminded the public to not pass any barricades while responders work to clean up roadways

By Tuesday, Rogers police said they have begun issuing citations to drivers who drive through barricaded areas.

"Even if it is a cone in the road, do not drive past it," RPD said. "Several officers have noted they have seen people getting out of their cars, moving the barricades, and then driving through. Don't do that. Don't drive over the caution tape. The barricades are there for your safety."

According to RPD, 13 citations and two arrests were made after people drove around barricades on Tuesday.
