MULDROW, Okla. — A man has been arrested for murder in Muldrow, Oklahoma.
Matthew Whitfield, 35, was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail on May 13 for obstruction of evidence and first-degree murder. Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane confirmed to 5NEWS that there was a murder in Muldrow city limits that day.
In a press release from May 15, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) offered new details of the incident.
The release says that on May 13, the Muldrow Police Department requested assistance with a homicide case.
Earlier that day, officers had responded to a disturbance near Southwest Third Street and South Baker Street.
Once on the scene, 55-year-old Nekaita Nance was found dead with a stab wound.
Whitfield was on the scene when officers arrived, according to the release. He was interviewed by OSBI and arrested.
Whitfield has pleaded not guilty and his next hearing is scheduled for May 29.
