SHADY POINT, Okla. — A newly released Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) arrest report confirmed an Eastern Oklahoma police officer, who was put on administrative leave, crashed his patrol car while drunk.

According to the report, a trooper received a call about an "officer-involved collision with injuries" on June 26 around 11:20 p.m. It was later revealed that Shady Point Police Department (SPPD) Officer Logan Colwell, who was off duty at the time, was the one involved in the crash.

Deputies on the scene said before crashing on Latham Road west of Blue Goose Road around six miles west of Shady Point in LeFlore County, Colwell "was on the county radio making statements that made them think he was going to harm himself." Due to these threats, the report said all on-duty law enforcement was looking for Colwell.

A witness, who was nearly hit by his patrol vehicle on Brazil Creek Loop Road, was the one to find Colwell, according to the report. The witness told police they had to swerve to avoid being struck by Colwell.

"[The witness] thought there was something not right about the situation," the report said. "[The witness] turned around and started to follow the police unit."

The witness reportedly told law enforcement that the patrol vehicle was driving erratically with the emergency lights and sirens activated. Under the impression that the vehicle was stolen, the witness called 911 about the incident.

While still following Colwell, the witness said he lost sight of the patrol car near Latham Road where the car crashed. The witness told police he noticed a light off the right side of the road, but didn't stop because he thought it was stolen.

Once a LeFlore County deputy arrived to the scene, he reportedly found Colwell lying in the middle of the road with his patrol vehicle off the roadway in the trees.

"Colwell was highly intoxicated," the report said. "Colwell had shorts on without a shirt and Crocs on as footwear."

EMS personnel began treating Colwell, but he was "very emotional" and could not focus on their questions.

"Colwell was shouting, 'I can't take her sh*t anymore. I have had enough,'" the report said.

Once responders loaded Colwell into the ambulance, a trooper began asking him what had happened and if he had been drinking.

Colwell reportedly told police, "I'm not going to lie ... I am drunk ... I'm a cop ... I know how this goes. I am very drunk."

According to the report, Colwell was cooperative in taking a preliminary breath test. His result was redacted from the report, but following the test, he was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Colwell did not consent to a blood alcohol test.

"Colwell was then released on his own recognizance to be transported to [a nearby] hospital," the report said.

SPPD confirmed an officer involved in the incident was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Note: Although the Shady Point Police Department statement does not name the officer, it has been connected to Officer Colwell's crash because authorities sent that statement to 5NEWS in response to inquiries about Colwell.
