ARKANSAS, USA — Stacy Lee Drake will be extradited to Sequoyah County after he was caught in Morrilton after a day-long manhunt, according to Sheriff Larry Lane.
Drake is the main suspect in a double homicide in Gans, Okla., where a man and a woman were killed on June 18.
Drake is also the suspect in two other recent homicides, one in El Reno, Okla., and the other in Tuscaloosa, Ala. back in May.
On Wednesday, June 19, the Arkansas State Police announced the manhunt for Drake, accusing him of four possible murders, robbery, and carjacking. Authorities warned the public to call 911 immediately if they saw Drake, as he was considered armed and dangerous.
On Thursday morning, the Conway County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Drake was arrested without incident in Morrilton, Ark., where he was last seen on surveillance camera at a hotel the day after the Gans double homicide.
Drake went to an extradition hearing in Conway County court on Friday.
Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane confirmed to 5NEWS that deputies were en route to pick up Drake in Morrilton and will be extradited to Oklahoma where he faces two first-degree murder charges for the killing of Tara Barnett Underwood and Taylor Sharp, two employees of LaFerry's Propane.
The indictment against Drake said he entered the business, killed the two employees, and then drove away in Tara's vehicle. That vehicle, according to police, was found at the hotel in Morrilton the following day.
The charges filed are two counts of first-degree murder and one count of robbery with a weapon.
“I am extremely grateful for the hard work and dedication shown by the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office and the OSBI,” Sequoyah County District Attorney Jack Thorp said when the charges were announced.
“I would also like to thank law enforcement in Arkansas from the Morrilton Police Department, the Arkansas State Police, and the Conway County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in locating and apprehending this violent criminal.”
