Oklahoma court brings additional murder charge against Stacy Lee Drake

Prosecutors allowed the Canadian County case to be added to the double homicide case because the crime happened as a result of a "pattern of criminal offenses."

SEQUOYAH COUNTY, Okla. — Suspected murderer Stacy Lee Drake had another day in court on Monday, Aug. 26, which added charges against him and put the trial under a gag order.

In June, Drake eluded police during a multi-day manhunt that crossed state lines before being arrested in Arkansas. Drake was initially charged with a double homicide in Sequoyah County. Now, a death out of Canadian County, Okla. is being added to his two other murder charges.

The death of Phillip Emerson was added to the case against Drake in court on Aug. 26. Prosecutors said Drake killed Emerson before making his way to Sequoyah County where two other victims, Tara Underwood and Taylor Sharp, were both killed.

Even though Emerson was killed in Canadian County, prosecutors allowed the case to be added to the double homicide case because the crime happened as a result of a "pattern of criminal offenses."

The manhunt for Drake began after Underwood and Sharp were found dead at LaFerry's Propane on June 18, and ended when Drake was apprehended in a wooded area in Morrilton on June 20.

Drake has also been linked to a fourth killing in Alabama around the time of the other four murders.

Capt. Jack Kennedy with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office gave a press conference to the community after Drake was apprehended in the manhunt.

"He had no fixed address. He has an extensive criminal history in multiple states," Kennedy said. "It appears that he was traveling the country in this lifestyle utilizing false names in an attempt to keep from being incarcerated, and what led him to become a person that violently assaults and murders people."

Drake's lawyer, Mitchell Solomon, has handled multiple murder cases in Oklahoma.

District Attorney Jack Thorp said Drake could face the death penalty.
