SEQUOYAH COUNTY, Okla. — A suspect crashed a stolen vehicle into the Arkansas River after fleeing from police on Sept. 18, according to Arkansas Department of Public Safety's Director of Communications Cindy Murphy.

Murphy said a preliminary report showed that an Arkansas State Police trooper began the pursuit after they spotted a red Dodge truck that had been reported stolen out of Franklin County at around 12:19 p.m. on Wednesday.

The trooper tried to stop the vehicle when the driver began to flee. According to Murphy, the pursuit began in Fort Smith and ended in Moffett, Oklahoma.

"Once in Moffett, the suspect drove through cornfields until ultimately wrecking into the river bed at the edge of the Arkansas River," Murphy said.

All people in the car attempted to flee by foot but were eventually taken into custody by Sequoyah County sheriff's deputies. Murphy said no injuries were reported.

It is unclear how many people were arrested.
