MUSKOGEE, Okla. — A Tahlequah man arrested earlier this year for murder has been convicted by a federal jury.
Isaac Newman Sockey, 39, was found guilty on Dec. 12 of first-degree murder, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
Sockey was arraigned on Oct. 23 and pleaded not guilty. His trial began on Dec. 11 and concluded on Dec. 12 with the guilty verdict.
During his trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Sockey stabbed the victim in the head, neck, and back after a verbal altercation took place at a private residence.
The victim was life-flighted to a Tulsa hospital but succumbed to their injuries.
The stabbing occurred in Tahlequah within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation Reservation. Evidence presented was the result of an investigation by the Tahlequah Police Department, the Cherokee Nation Attorney General's Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Sockey now awaits sentencing.
