ALMA, Arkansas — Two high-speed pursuits across the Arkansas-Oklahoma state line ended with an arrest and crashed vehicles on Sept. 23, according to Arkansas State Police (ASP) spokesperson Cindy Murphy.
The Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office alerted ASP around 2:25 p.m. about two vehicles fleeing eastbound on I-40 toward Arkansas — a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Jeep Gladiator.
ASP said their agency took over the pursuit of the Tahoe around 2:30 p.m., while Oklahoma authorities continued to pursue the Jeep.
According to ASP, the Chevy exited the roadway at the intersection of Highway 64 and Firefly Lane in Alma, ran into a fence, and became disabled.
The driver, 35-year-old Derrick Scudder, reportedly fled on foot but was apprehended around 2:43 p.m. ASP said troopers found two suitcases in the Scudder's car with around 240 pounds of meth and 2.2 pounds of fentanyl.
In the other pursuit, Oklahoma authorities continued to chase the Jeep onto I-540 southbound. ASP said the chase ended with the Jeep rear-ending a civilian vehicle.
According to Murphy, ASP's only role in the second pursuit is to investigate the crash. The investigation is still ongoing.
