Local man convicted of killing a 16-year-old dies in prison

Lloyd Jones was convicted of killing Angela Allen in 2012. A judge sentenced him to 60 years in prison.

VAN BUREN, Ark. — Lloyd Jones, a registered sex offender, was convicted in the murder of 16-year-old Angela Allen in 2012.

A judge sentenced Lloyd Jones, who was 36 at the time, to 60 years in prison. Dinah Tyler with the Arkansas Department of Corrections confirmed Jones died of natural causes at the Tucker Unit in maximum security on Feb. 27. 2024.

"My son got on the phone and said 'Mom, I got a text message from his stepdaughter stating that you don't have to worry about him anymore. Your family can be at peace,'" said Cecilia Dixon, Angela's mother. "I was just like, stunned. Like, oh, my God."

Angela disappeared the evening of Feb. 10, 2012, after telling family she was going for a walk. Police said she was with Jones near the Arkansas River at an area commonly known as the “Mud Town Bottoms.”

Jones said he became angry when he learned Angela was only 16. He told police he struck the girl and shoved her into the water.

Deputies found Angela's body on Jones’ property outside Lavaca in February 2012. Investigators say Allen was strangled, her leg cut, and her body stuffed in a barrel.

He pleaded guilty to murdering Allen.

Jones also escaped from the East Arkansas Corrections Unit in Brickeys, Arkansas in 2016.

Dixon said that after what happened to her daughter, she didn't necessarily want Jones to die, but she feels at peace with him no longer here now.

"He took something from me. Am I glad he's dead? I don't wish that upon anybody. I don't wish harm to anybody. But the Bible states you reap what you sow," Dixon said. "I went up to her grave when my son called and told me, I'll tell her I said, baby girl, now you rest in peace. And I told her, I said, 'it's over.'"
