FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A Fayetteville husband and wife have been arrested for alleged sex crimes involving a minor.
Vance Parks, 36, and Gina Parks, 37, were both booked into the Washington County Detention Center on Sept. 6. They are facing charges of video voyeurism and distributing, possessing, or viewing child porn, according to a preliminary report. Both charges are felony counts.
At the time of the incident, both Vance and Gina were residents of the Grandview Apartments in Fayetteville.
"These arrests occurred as a result of an incident that happened back around December of 2020, they did not involve any tenants outside of the suspect's apartment," Senior Prosecuting Attorney Denis Dean said. "The female was the leasing manager of Grandview Apartments at the time that this crime occurred, but it had nothing to do with her employment. They were also residents of Grandview Apartments, and this occurred within their apartment and their apartment alone. And it appears to be an isolated incident."
Dean said the investigation into the matter is still ongoing. He said Grandview Apartments has been cooperative with the Fayetteville Police Department in the investigation.
5NEWS reached out to Grandview Apartments for more information on the matter, but they said they have no comment at this time.
Despite Dean saying the incident appears to be isolated, Kristen Cooper, a former resident of the apartments, said the charges are still worrisome.
"They had full-time access to the apartments at any time," Cooper said. "As a parent, you're like, 'Well, what steps do we take? Do we need to find out more information to see if we were victims? What do we need to do to further protect our kids?' It's just so it's a whole circle of just feeling violated in every way."
Cooper said she lived in the Grandview Apartment complex up until two weeks ago. She said she and her family lived two floors above the Parks' apartment.
Grandview is an affordable housing complex in the city. Cooper said there was a long vetting process before being able to rent a space there.
"They worked so hard on implementing the process of getting approved," Cooper said. "How strict they were with rules, and to just find out that it pretty much is a flop because their own employees are victimizing children, and it could have been yours, is just sickening."
A court date for the couple has been set for Oct. 4 at the Washington County Courthouse, according to Dean. He confirmed that both Vance and Gina have been released from jail on a $10,000 bond each.
