1,000 books for 1,000 kids | The story of a 10-year-old author from Lincoln, Arkansas

For Solomon, the sky is the limit. He wants to share his book with everyone, even those who can't afford it.

LINCOLN, Arkansas — Your average ten-year-old may spend their summer days playing video games, or riding their bike up and down the cul-de-sac, but while Solomon Donoho surely has his fun, he's spending this summer working on his latest project.

"I went to a lot of book signings with my mom and I also went to a lot of farmer's markets. Eventually, I got tired of not having anything to sell. So I wanted to make a book," Solomon explains.

Solomon and his mom Nicole began writing "The Legend of DJ Awesome" a year ago.

"When he was in Kindergarten, he said he wanted to be a DJ," said Nicole, an author herself. "I thought it was cool when he told me he wanted to write a book about DJs because there weren't any DJ books."

"I like DJs, I like legends, and I like awesomeness," Solomon said.

"For me, it's more about building confidence. I just wanted Solomon to see you can dream big and you can chase those dreams," said Nicole

For Solomon, the sky is the limit. With a published book ready to sell, he wants to share it with everyone, not just those who can pay for it.

"I wanted to give away 1,000 free books to 1,000 kids," Solomon said.

With that in mind, the summer book drive began.

"He was excited to sell a book," Nicole adds. "But then he thought, 'What about the kids who can't afford it?' That made him sad, thinking that some people couldn't enjoy this cool story he made."

For every copy of his book sold, Solomon sets aside another copy to give away. The family has also collected $1,500 dollars for the drive.

Altogether, that has him almost halfway to his goal of 1,000 books, with half the summer to go.

They plan to give out "The Legend of DJ Awesome" at several area schools come August.

"He'll be able to go there and kind of present it to the whole grade, and they'll get to meet an author their age, which is really cool," his mom proudly expresses.

Solomon hopes to inspire other kids just like his mom's writing inspired him, "I realize that lots of people haven't followed their dreams, so I've been trying to help."
