OZARK, Ark. — Arkansas Tech University (ATU) came home ranking the number one College Robotics Team in the U.S. and number two in the world after their competition in Houston this weekend.
ATU competed at the Texas VEX U Tournament in Houston on Feb. 23 and 24. They finished runner up after losing to Texas A&M University.
Despite the loss to Texas A&M, ATU said their "performance in the skills challenge and head-to-head competition" was enough to earn them the top overall Excellence Award.
"To be so highly ranked this late in the season is phenomenal for us,” said Jacob Weidenfeller, ATU instructor of electrical engineering.
Last year, the university competed and won "Top 16 in the World." With this year's win, the university now qualifies to participate in the VEX U World Championship on April 28-30 in Dallas.
Weidenfeller said the Arkansas Tech Team is looking for sponsorships to help with the cost of competing in the world championship.
