SPRINGDALE, Ark. — A Springdale High School (SHS) student has been selected for a prestigious internship that involves NASA.

According to the school, Evelyn Bahena will join the Student Enhancement in Earth and Space Science (SEES) at The University of Texas (UT) at Austin’s Center for Space Research.

The SEES internship is funded by NASA and is “part of NASA’s Science Activation program,” according to the university’s website.

The internship involves students working with scientists and engineers “to conduct authentic research from data from NASA’s earth-observing satellites,” SHS said.

For two weeks, students will participate in field investigations and work on “various NASA missions.”

NASA said the program aims to “develop a scientific understanding of Earth’s system and its response to natural or human-induced changes and to improve prediction of climate, weather, and natural hazards.”

Evelyn was one of the 100 students that got selected out of 2,000 applicants. The selected students will meet at UT Austin in July of this year.
