The Fort Smith board of directors approved a resolution allowing a new call center to take advantage of state tax breaks Tuesday (Aug. 20).
The municipal action authorizes the refund of local sales and use taxes to Arkansas HMA Regional Service Center, LLC.
HMA Regional Service Center, LLC, a subsidiary of Health Management Associates, is planning currently working on a $2 million expansion that will bring an estimated 500 jobs to the River Valley.
The center is located at 4600 Towson Avenue.
The Tax Back program permits new and expanding businesses to receive tax breaks on some major purchases related to the relocation or expansion, including building materials, new equipment and other eligible expenses incurred, according to the city. Most of the tax rebates will be derived from State of Arkansas sales taxes.
