COLUMBUS, Ohio — It may soon be critical for people who have had breast cancer surgery or cancer therapy like radiation to wear a smartwatch.
Scientists at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center are looking to the devices to see early signs of lymphedema.
The condition is painful and can alter a cancer survivor’s quality of life as it is an accumulation of fluids that can limit mobility and make it difficult to fit into clothing.
Researchers at OSUCCC/The James are studying the symptoms along with a device with custom technology.
The study will need 70 people—half who have the condition and half who do not. You can learn more about participating in the Project Limb Rescue study, by emailing ProjectLimbRescue@osumc.edu.
