Where does Arkansas stand in terms of nationwide life expectancy?

Both the CDC and NVSS reports agree the state with the highest life expectancy is Hawaii.

ARKANSAS, USA — Arkansas is among the lowest states in the nation in terms of life expectancy, according to a National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) report published on Aug. 21, 2024.

The report, having gathered data from 2021, names Arkansas as the 45th state in terms of life expectancy, with the average person living until they are 72.5 years old. That average number balances males at 69.7 years, and females at 75.6.

In a similar report, the CDC also names Arkansas as the 45th state, with only Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, and West Virginia lower on the list.

Both the CDC and NVSS reports agree the state with the highest life expectancy is Hawaii— at around 80 years.
