ARKANSAS, USA — Razorback fans are getting ready to head to Little Rock for the first game of the season on Thursday, Aug. 29. With the long weekend ahead, ARDOT expects traffic to pick up in the next few days.
The good news for drivers is that because it’s also a holiday weekend, ARDOT said there will be no construction-related lane closures during this time.
“We will work with the contractors,” Dave Parker, spokesperson for ARDOT, said. “They're always really good about it. We’ll have no full lane closures because of construction really anytime from Thursday afternoon or night through Tuesday morning after Labor Day to give people Monday night to get back.”
With all lanes open, Parker said he expects traffic to flow smoothly but slowly due to the large number of people on the interstates between Fayetteville and Little Rock.
“You rarely will hear the Department of Transportation say that we hope there's traffic, [but] we hope a lot of people are coming out for the first game here at Little Rock,” Parker said. “We want that heavy traffic coming down I-49 and I-40 into Little Rock. We want that stadium packed, so we hope that traffic is moving and people are being safe about it.”
He said the bulk of the traffic between Fayetteville and Little Rock will likely be around noon on Thursday and encourages fans traveling from Fayetteville to allow extra time and leave as early as possible.
