ARDOT: Arkansans prohibited from placing campaign signs on highway right-of-ways

Only official, directional, informational, and regulatory signs are allowed on state-owned highway property.

ARKANSAS, USA — Amid election season, the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is reminding political candidates and their supporters of state laws prohibiting campaign signs from being placed on highway right-of-ways.

According to Arkansas Code 27-67-304, only official, directional, informational, and regulatory signs are allowed on state-owned highway property. ARDOT's Area Maintenance Office will remove all signs that don't comply with Arkansas statutes.

"The Arkansas Department of Transportation encourages everyone to follow the right of way laws to keep the roadsides clear and ensure our highways are as safe as possible," ARDOT Director Lorie Tudor said.

ARDOT will remove any yard signs and contact owners of larger signs to remove them. If your sign is removed, owners can pick up the signs during normal business owners at a local ARDOT Area Maintenance Office.
