ARKANSAS, USA — Benton, Crawford, Franklin, Johnson, Madison, Sebastian, and Washington counties are among the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) award recipients for the 2023 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and Recreational Trails Program (RTP).
ARDOT announced the recipients on Dec. 7. They awarded 47 TAP projects, which are in total valued at $15 million, and 14 RTP projects valued at $2 million.
The TAP provides funding for transportation alternative projects to improve how pedestrians, bicyclists, and other non-motorized forms of transportation get around Arkansas' cities.
According to ARDOT, TAP is a "reimbursement-type grant program that provides for an 80% federal share and a 20% local match from eligible applicants."
RTP funds the maintenance of existing recreational trails and the construction of new recreational trails, and it is funded from a portion of the TAP funds.
