Arkansas will be free of construction-related lane closures during Thanksgiving week

To help mitigate congestion on the highways, ARDOT says no main lane closures are scheduled during the busy travel week.

ARKANSAS, USA — Thanksgiving is the busiest holiday for travel, and AAA is predicting this year will be the third busiest holiday travel season in more than 20 years with more than 55 million Americans expected to travel more than 50 miles this Thanksgiving through all modes of transportation.

To help mitigate congestion on the highways during the busy travel week, the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) says there will be no construction-related lane closures in Arkansas after the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 21, and continuing until the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 28.

“Wednesday, the 22nd, is the latest a lot of people will leave and then it carries through Thursday, Friday, the weekend, and Monday," Dave Parker, spokesperson for ARDOT, said. "You’ve got to get back to work. We don't want people coming back Monday morning and encountering a full lane closure because of construction. That's why we carry that through Monday evening, Tuesday morning to really be safe."

Parker says there will still be active construction zones that drivers need to be aware of throughout the week, but there will not be any lane closures because of that construction.
