Arkansans collect over $5 million of FEMA assistance

At the state's request, FEMA has extended the application deadline to Aug. 28.

ARKANSAS, USA — After tornadoes and severe storms devastated Arkansas in May, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said they have approved more than $5 million to assist residents in their recovery.

FEMA said more than 5,250 Arkansans from Baxter, Benton, Boone, Fulton, Greene, Madison, Marion, and Randolph counties applied for assistance.

However, this isn't the end of the line for Arkansans. At the state's request, FEMA has extended the application deadline to Aug. 28.

If you were impacted by storms in any of the previously mentioned counties between May 24 and 27, assistance is still available. FEMA can help cover any disaster-related needs not covered by insurance, including rental assistance, temporary housing, home repairs, and personal property losses.

Local disaster recovery centers will be permanently closing on Tuesday, July 9, including the Benton County location at the Northwest Arkansas Community College. Although these centers will no longer be open, FEMA will still be taking applications online
