LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — For Arkansans who receive social security benefits, any new updates are important to know about.
The government provides monthly income payments for retired people and similar benefits for those who are unable to work due to a disability. These payments typically arrive on set dates each month.
However, right now rumors are circulating online about whether a bonus payment is coming at the end of this month.
According to the AARP, social security checks follow a set schedule every month, with recipients typically receiving theirs on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday, depending on their birth date.
There is also a benefit, called Supplemental Security Income, or SSI. These recipients include people who are blind, disabled, or age 65 and over with very limited financial resources. Those payments are generally paid out on the first of the month.
This can be a problem, however, if the first falls on a weekend or a federal holiday when banks are closed. That's happening in November of 2024 and on December 1, which is a Sunday.
In cases like this, the government's social security website states that SSI payments are sent out on the closest prior business day. These payments will arrive on Friday, November 29, in addition to regular social security payments that came on November 1.
So, we can verify that no, there is not a bonus payment this month. The second check in November is for SSI recipients and is actually just an advance for December.
