Arkansas Graveler begins 6-day bike tour

Although this is the first Graveler ride, organizers say they plan to continue the tour as a yearly tradition.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Despite high temperatures across the Natural State, over 300 cyclists began the first-ever Arkansas Graveler, a 340-mile bike tour.

This event is a way to explore Arkansas over the course of six days. Those participating will bike 40 to 70 miles each day depending on the terrain.

"It's an exploration of the senses, a celebration of nature’s treasures, and an immersion into the heart of Arkansas culture," according to the Graveler's website

On June 23, cyclists departed from the University of Arkansas and ended the day in Oark. By Friday, June 28, they will end up in Jonesboro.

Although this is the first Graveler ride, organizers say they plan to continue the tour as a yearly tradition. However, they want to keep the event close-knit.

"We never want this ride to be so big that we lose that intimate contact with the cyclist," Ozark Foundation President and CEO Michael Spivey said. "This year we have over 300. We may go to [400], maybe [500], but we want to keep it small and really unique and special for everyone."
