FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — There's a new king on the Hill.
And his name is KJ Jefferson.
The Arkansas quarterback continued to etch his name into the Hogs' history book on Saturday by cementing himself as the most outstanding passer in program history.
In the first quarter against Florida International, Jefferson connected with wide receiver Jaedon Wilson from 10 yards out for his 65 career touchdown pass, the most in Arkansas history.
Brandon Allen held the previous record of 64 passing touchdowns during his three-year career with the Razorbacks from 2012-2015.
"It’s almost surreal, it’s a surreal moment just to be able to come here," Jefferson said. "That’s a milestone for me. It was one of my goals to come in and make sure I went down in the record books and made history here. So it was just a surreal moment. Like I said, I thank my teammates for always believing in me and making plays for me as well, and me just trusting in those guys.”
But Jefferson wasn't done there.
He also broke the school's career passing yards record of 7,765, which Tyler Wilson set from 2008-2012.
The redshirt senior is the Razorbacks' all-time leader in pass completions, passing yards, passing touchdowns, total plays, total yards and touchdown responsibility.
“It’s been pretty cool seeing KJ play and having the success he’s had," Arkansas offensive lineman Brady Latham said. "Me and KJ came in together. You root for all your teammates, but he’s really someone you root for. He’s a great team leader and the whole locker room was happy for him today.”
Jefferson completed 15 of 28 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns to help Arkansas to a 44-20 victory over Florida International at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Saturday.
“I think he’s handled the season well," Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman said. "He competed tonight for us. I’m really happy. We recognized him after the game for being the all-time passing yards leader and in passing touchdowns. I know it meant a lot to him and it meant a lot to us. We’ve been able to have him for four years now... KJ has meant a lot to our program, and he’s gonna mean a lot to us next Friday too, I’m just really, really happy for him."
The Razorbacks wrap up the regular season against Missouri on Nov. 24. Coverage from Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium begins at 3:00 p.m. Central on THV11.
“l you know it’s a rivalry game, and they’ve got a really, really good team," Pittman said. "We’ve got a lot of respect for their program. I think in a rivalry, you never know what happens. We’ll have our kids prepared and I know they will as well. I’m excited about having the opportunity to play them.
