ROGERS, Ark. — The City of Rogers announced that it is expecting a limited number of Arkansas National Guard members to arrive on Thursday, May 30, to help with tornado recovery efforts.
Extreme weather hit Northwest Arkansas on Sunday, May 26, killing eight people. Hundreds of electric poles were knocked down during the storm leaving thousands across the state without power for days. Clean-up efforts are still underway, but many are still going through hardships.
Governor Sanders authorized the members to help during this time of need as assessments of the damage still continue.
According to the officials, the National Guard will be helping with traffic control and flagging for utility work, among other needs in the city.
The city asks drivers to be aware when on the road and "ensure they remain safe."
