Arkansas State Police encourages people not drive on the highways during inclement weather

For those who have to drive during inclement weather, ASP has some safety tips.

ARKANSAS, USA — Arkansas State Police (ASP) is encouraging people to not drive on the highways during inclement weather to avoid accidents.

For those who do not have to go out, ASP asks that you consider staying home as the current weather conditions can make "highway travel unsafe."

For people who have more limited options for staying home, ASP offers the following tips.

Safety reminders for driving on the highway during inclement weather

  • Reduce your speed.
  • create more distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you
  • Brake earlier than normal.
  • Consider an emergency kit that includes:
    • extra clothing
    • blankets
    • water
    • non-perishable food
    • first-aid items

Considering these tips will help everyone stay safe on the highway, ASP said. Troopers will be out "in full force," ready to help drivers who encounter issues on the highway.

If you come across trouble on the highway, you can call ASP at *277 for non-emergency issues and you will be connected to an ASP trooper near you.
