BARLING, Ark. — KISS Rebreathers, a scuba equipment company based in Barling is currently in Cozumel, Mexico for a week-long research expedition. The company made the announcement on Facebook saying, "We're headed to Cozumel for a week of exploration and expedition."
Owner Mike Young and others in his team went as part of a project to inspect water in the island's cenotes along with other divers. According to 5tv Cozumel, "U.S. divers restarted cenote mapping to determine how many there are, and know the degree of pollution that water has and whether it represents a risk for the new species found in those caves underwater."
On Jan. 30, the team posted that they had "collected 3 specimens," one of them possibly being a new species. Data is still being collected in their findings but here's an image of one of the specimens they found.
The exploration is still underway and we have yet to find out what else KISS Rebreathers discover at the Mexican island.
