BELLA VISTA, Ark. — The Bella Vista Police Department (BVPD) says that it is gearing up to stop buzzed drivers during the holiday season.
BVPD says that it wants to "remind all drivers that even buzzed driving is drunk driving, and there is nothing merry about being arrested for drunk driving," according to a release from the City of Bella Vista.
The release says that officers will be conducting "extra enforcement" this month, joining law enforcement agencies across the country for the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) DWI mobilization, which begins Dec. 15.
The mobilization comes ahead of holidays like Christmas, when people may be more likely to drink. The release says to take that into consideration when consuming alcohol.
"Before taking part in holiday and seasonal festivities, plan for a sober designated driver if you will be enjoying alcoholic beverages," the release said.
BVPD says to expect increased law enforcement, including DWI checkpoints.
