Second storm debris pickup pass in Benton County scheduled

With the second sweep in mind, county residents are asked to push their debris to the right-of-way along the road.
The county is hoping to break ground by the end of this year.

BENTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — Benton County is set to start its second big storm debris cleanup sweep on Aug. 18, almost three months after tornadoes hit the area on Memorial Day Weekend, killing four and destroying countless homes.

With the second sweep in mind, county residents are asked to push their debris to the right-of-way along the road. 

The county will not be picking up debris placed along private, city, or state roads.

Benton County has provided a map that details pickup areas.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) opened up two centers in Benton County following the storms on May 26.

Decatur

  • Where: Falling Springs Community Church at 21822 Falling Springs Road
  • When:  8:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Bentonville

  • Where: NWACC's Shewmaker Center For Workforce Technologies (Room B103)
  • When: 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Representatives from FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Arkansas departments, and community partners will be at the centers to help residents from Benton, Boone, and Marion counties. Residents do not need an appointment to visit.

The deadline to apply for disaster assistance is Aug. 28.
