BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The Bentonville City Council approved the $1.1 million dollar design of a water transmission line extension project. The utility board approved 5-0 for the design.
The approval was made during a meeting on Tuesday, March 26. The project includes a 14,000-foot (roughly 2.65 miles), 48-inch water transmission line from SW 28th Street to the I Street pump station, according to the city council meeting agenda.
Bentonville officials say this extension is necessary to "reduce head pressure and allow I Street tanks to refill more quickly," and that it would help with the high water demand in the city.
In addition, the project will include a 36-inch extension across Walton Boulevard connecting with the current downtown infrastructure, the agenda said.
The agenda states the project would be handled by Freese and Nicholas Inc., a planning and consulting engineering firm out of Fort Worth Texas.
The total amount approved for the water transmission line is $1,145,670, with no city budget adjustment needed for the engineering service..
