BENTONVILLE, Ark. — On Sept. 9, the Bentonville Police Department (BPD) announced the officer who shot and killed an assault suspect in July will not face charges related to the incident.
According to the BPD, Officer Omri-Andrew Nutt responded to an assault call on Southwest Castlewood Street around 6 p.m. on July 11, where Nathaniel Crabtree, 37, was reportedly assaulting two women outside their homes.
Upon arriving, Officer Nutt "had a reasonable belief that Mr. Crabtree would imminently use deadly physical force against him," according to Benton County Prosecuting Attorney Josh Robinson.
According to Robinson, Crabtree continued to approach Officer Nutt, despite being hit with a taser and commanded to get on the ground. Officer Nutt shot Crabtree once, and Crabtree was transported to a nearby hospital where he died, BPD reports.
Officer Nutt, who began working for BPD in January 2022, was not injured.
The case was investigated by the Arkansas State Police (ASP) with all findings given to Benton County Prosecutor Joshua Robinson.
