City of Bentonville closes, evacuates Creekside Park due to armed person

When asked if there was a threat to the public, the spokesperson told 5NEWS that the park is closed and evacuated, and that police are monitoring the situation.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The Bentonville Police Department has cleared a scene near Creekside Park involving an armed individual on July 19.

A spokesperson with the City of Bentonville told 5NEWS that police were working a call related to an armed male on the trail to the west of Creekside Park.

When asked if there was a threat to the public, the spokesperson told 5NEWS that the park was closed and evacuated, and that police were monitoring the situation.

The spokesperson added that police were in communication with the subject and were "working to resolve the situation," adding that no names would be released at this time.

Melissa Fox with BPD said that there was "a peaceful resolution for both police and the individual," and that the scene was cleared around 1 a.m.

"He was provided the appropriate resources for help, charges are pending review," Fox said.

The City of Bentonville posted to Facebook at around 6:30 p.m. on Friday that Creekside was closed, and all activities were canceled, with plans to reopen on July 20.
