Best Friends in Bentonville takes in pets displaced by Beryl

"We know, especially after the occurrence of the tornadoes up here, how big community is," Haley Volker with Best Friends said.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Houston residents are still recovering from the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl. To help relieve stress on animal shelters, Best Friends Pet Resource Center in Bentonville took in animals from Houston on July 13.

On Saturday, around 15 to 20 animals arrived from shelters with flooding or without power and water. The majority of the animals are cats and kittens, plus two puppies.

Each one received physical exams and vaccines. Life saving care employees made sure the pets medical records are up to date, so they can be put on the adoption floor as soon as possible.

"Those are the animals they had at their facility at the time when the storm hit, and they were the ones that were in need the most," Supervisor Haley Volker said.

Volker said Best Friends is lucky to be able to open its doors for shelters who need relief.

"We know, especially after the occurrence of the tornadoes up here, how big community is, and us being able to take those animals from the Houston area allows them to open their doors up to assist their community even more," she said.
