The days of cheerleaders wearing their uniforms on game day are over for some in Florida. Published reports indicate parents felt the short skirts and sleeveless uniforms were too vulgar and created a double standard for others who must strictly adhere to the dress codes.
While the uniforms are allowed to be worn during the games, they are not allowed to be worn during the school day. The ban first started at Countryside High School in Clearwater, Florida and has now been adopted by a number of other schools in the Tampa-St. Petersburg region.
Reports indicate the uniforms may be allowed to be worn during the school day if the skirts are lengthened and arm covers are worn. Until then, the ban is in place.
