Bond for man accused of manslaughter in the death of child in Leflore County could change

Prosecutors filed a motion to "strengthen" Miguel Reyes' bond, while his attorney asked the judge to reduce his bond.

LE FLORE COUNTY, Okla. — A man charged in the death of a 4-year-old boy in LeFlore County could see his bond of $75,500 change, according to court documents.

Miguel Reyes, 18, was arraigned on charges of first-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence, and reckless driving on April 17.

LeFlore County District Judge Jennifer McBee has set a motion hearing for April 22 after prosecutors and Reyes' attorney submitted bond requests.

Court documents say Reyes was driving eastbound on US-270 when he veered off the roadway at 250th Avenue and drove through a fence of a residence near the highway, hitting a 4-year-old playing in his yard. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to OHP's report, Reyes was intoxicated and driving under the influence. Since his arrest on April 14, Reyes has been held in the LeFlore County Jail on a $75,500 bond.

Prosecutors filed a motion on Wednesday, asking the judge to "strengthen" Reyes' bond. While the filing does not specify an amount for the increase, it does say prosecutors believe Reyes is a "flight risk."

According to the filing, prosecutors have learned of Reyes' "potential plans" to flee to Mexico to avoid prosecution.

Reyes' attorney also filed a motion to reduce his bond— an amount was not specified. His attorney maintains that Reyes is not a flight risk or a threat to society.
