Burn ban issued for parts of Oklahoma

According to the National Weather Service, "Gusty winds and low afternoon humidity values will increase grassland fire spread rates today," and increase tomorrow.

LE FLORE COUNTY, Okla. — A burn ban has been issued for parts of Oklahoma on the morning of Feb. 26.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), "Gusty winds and low afternoon humidity values will increase grassland fire spread rates today."

"No outside burning today due to high winds and very low humidity," said LeFlore County Emergency Management on Facebook.

Here's what the NWS recommends during these conditions:

  • Properly extinguish existing fires
  • Properly dispose of cigarettes
  • Avoid idling a vehicle over dormant vegetation
  • Only use welding equipment away from dormant vegetation

A "fire weather watch" is also in effect for Tuesday in northeast Oklahoma as conditions are expected to worsen, according to the NWS.
