What to know as closings begin to roll in due to snow in Arkansas

Due to heavy snow and wintry mixes forecasted for the area, multiple places have announced early closings and delays.

ARKANSAS, USA — A major winter storm with heavy snow and severe travel risks is expected to hit Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley this afternoon, Jan. 24.

The Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (XNA) has given an alert to travelers to confirm with the airline about possible cancellations or delays. XNA says they have crews ready throughout the next few days to keep the runway clear.

Veterans clinics also announced closings at noon in Northwest Arkansas, and 3 p.m. in the River Valley. However, inpatient and emergency departments are staying open.

Centerton City Offices and Centerton District Court will be closing at 3 p.m. today and will be closed on Wednesday, January 25th due to inclement weather.

The City of Fayetteville announced that it will be offering sheltering systems for residents in need of shelter or transportation to get to a safe location. Residents can call 2-1-1 if needing to utilize the service. More information on Fayetteville's cold weather shelters can be found here.

The Amazeum in Bentonville will be closed Wednesday.
