Closings: Severe weather causes closures, delays in Arkansas

Several city meetings and after-school activities were canceled or postponed due to severe weather on Monday.

ARKANSAS, USA — The potential for severe weather across Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley has prompted some organizations to close operations and some schools to delay dismissal on Nov. 4. 

Fort Smith

Orr Elementary School closed on Monday due to flooding on campus. It is still unclear if the school will reopen on Nov. 5. We will provide updates as more information becomes available. 

The Fort Smith Board of Directors meeting scheduled for Monday will be canceled and rescheduled to Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. More than the required four directors agreed to the cancellation. Directors George Catsavis and Christina Catsavis did not concur with the change. 

Westville, Oklahoma

Classes were canceled for Nov. 5 in Westville due to severe weather that included flooding, downed power lines, and road closures. 

Pea Ridge

The Pea Ridge School District said there will be no after-school activities. All scheduled practices ended at 4 p.m.

Greenwood

The Greenwood City Council Monday meeting has been postponed until further notice. A new meeting date has not been announced. 

Springdale

Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse announced that Monday's City Council Committee Meeting will be postponed to Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m.

Little Flock

Little Flock Mayor said the November Planning Commission and Board of Adjustments meeting for Monday will be moved to Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Sunshine School at 3400 N Woods Ln. 

Fayetteville

The Monday meeting for Fayetteville's Parks, Natural Resources, and Cultural Affairs Advisory Board has been changed to a fully virtual meeting. 

Cave Springs

The Monday Cave Springs Planning Commission meeting has been postponed until further notice. A new meeting date has not been announced.
