Bentonville Public Library to close temporarily for construction | What to know

Here's what you can expect when the library reopens.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Bentonville Public Library (BPL) announced its main campus will close for two weeks starting Monday, May 20.

According to the library, this is due to its "ongoing expansion project." The construction will conclude on June 2, but the library will not reopen until June 3.

What to know

Here is some information to know before the closure, released by BPL.

  • Online services will still be available.
  • Book donations will resume on June 3.
  • The last call for holds and locker services is Tuesday, May 14, at noon. These services will resume on Monday, June 3.
  • Interlibrary "loan requests" will not be available at this location but can be accessed through other libraries.
  • The library's phones or email will not be available during the construction.

Due dates

  • No overdue fees will be accumulated through the dates in the closure timeframe.
  • If your due date falls within the two-week closure, those dates will automatically be rescheduled to June 3.
  • Returns can still be dropped off at drive-thru book drops except "Library of Things" kits and items or board games.

Reopening

BPL said a few areas will be in different places once it reopens. Here are a few things to expect.

  • The Registration and Circulation Desks will be moved "further into the library" closer to the Coughlin Reading Hearth.
  • The Rotary Meeting Room will be "transformed" to house the library's "state-of-the-art, 9-bin book sorting system," which the library said will be visible through a large window.
  • The bookstore will be relocated to the Walmart Meeting Room.

Summer Reading Club

The library said Summer Reading Club materials will be ready. Free summer lunches will begin for children 18 or younger from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Ongoing construction

Although the library will be reopened, some construction will continue. As demolition begins on the main entry wall, people can expect safety precaution signs, workers and temporary closures.
