FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Developers hoping to bring an Alamo Drafthouse movie theater to the site of the old 112 Drive-in say that their plan is going to need more time.
The City of Fayetteville has granted developer CL Partners an extension on their large-scale building permit.
According to Fayetteville development review manager Jessie Masters, a request from the developer indicated they were holding off due to fluctuating interest rates.
Masters did not say why the permit was requested, but the City of Fayetteville explains that a building permit is only valid for six months as long as work is receiving inspections.
"A permit shall become invalid if the proposed work is not commenced within 180 days after its issuance. A permit will also become invalid if the authorized work is suspended or abandoned for a period of 180 days after the work commences," the city's website said.
The expiration date for the permit is now May 2, 2025.
They're planning to call the 36-acre development "The Aronson" in honor of Arkansan and cinema pioneer Max Aronson.
Ther centerpiece would be Arkansas' first Alamo Drafthouse, with more than 200 rental homes, as well as restaurants and stores.
The Texas-based chain is known for its interactive, menu-paired film screenings.
The Fayetteville theater will also include Alamo's first ever permanent outdoor screen. Additionally, it will be the cinema chain's first drive-in venue, and the first location in Arkansas.
The new drive-in, which was first announced in early 2023, pays homage to the popular 112 Drive-In theater which closed after 42 years.
The outdoor screen will be located in the south corner of the property where guests can watch films under the stars from the comfort of their own cars, cyclist seating or the cinema’s outdoor beer garden.
